Event time and date: October 26th, 2021; 12pm to 1 pm (ET)
Description: The transition from medical school to residency in the United States has been identified as an area of physician training that is ripe for improvement. The Coalition for Physician Accountability formed a cross-organizational group, the Undergraduate Medical Education to Graduate Medical Education Review Committee (UGRC), to create solutions for challenges in the UME-to-GME transition. The UGRC convened in fall 2020, analyzed problems with the current UME-to-GME transition, defined a future ideal state, and generated recommendations to improve the transition, particularly around the preparation and selection for residency and the application process. The Coalition for Physician Accountability has accepted the recommendations and final report from the UGRC. This session will elaborate on the UGRC recommendations, including tensions and considerations, and proceed with a community discussion about the meaning of the recommendations for institutions and training programs and possible implementation plans.
