Event time and date: June 23, 2021; 11 am to 12 pm (ET)
Description:
Robust programs of assessment should power competency-based models of education. Within these programs, assessments need to serve both formative and summative purposes. But these two purposes may be at odds, and learners and teachers may be uncertain whether a particular assessment moment is formative or summative or both. As a result, the translation of theory to practice in the realm of programmatic assessment is challenging. In this webinar, we will examine the distinct intentions underlying formative and summative assessment, and will discuss affordances and the risks of using the same information to support both purposes. We will consider both individual and organizational approaches to “unblurring” the lines between summative and formative assessment in order to use assessment systems productively.
